Day 2

Anyone that runs knows that you have days that you don't REALLY want to get out there...yesterday was one of those days. I don't know if it was the weather or the stress of a busy day but the run seemed hard. We got it done but it seemed hard!! There is nothing wrong with having a bad or hard run day, it happens. But anyway, run number 2 is done.

We went out after work and it was cool and overcast (I think I haven't seen the sun in a week!). I do find it hard sometimes to wait to run in the afternoon. I would actually rather run in the morning but my husband is not a morning runner!! That is one thing you have to deal with when you run with someone, you are not always on the same wavelength. I think his view on morning runs will change when it is 90 degrees out!!

We felt like we were running pretty fast but when we looked at the garmin we had started out around the same pace as Monday. We ended up running a 10:07 pace, not bad but we felt like we were running faster.

Today we are planning an afternoon lunchtime workout at the fitness center to do some strength training. We are going to try to fit this in twice a week. I am feeling a little more energetic today so that's good!! Until tomorrow....

First REAL training day

So, I'm not the best writer but I thought I would give this a try...here it goes.

My husband and I decided last Mother's Day weekend to change our lifestyle and start trying to lose weight. We were both about 70 pounds overweight and we are 40 and 37 years old. We have not worked out since we were in the Marine Corps back in our early 20's. We started walking and cutting calories and the pounds started coming off. After about two months of walking my husband said "I think we should start running...just a mile to start". The first time we ran I thought I was going to die at the end of it, I knew it was not going to work for me.

I went on a web search to look at how to start running and THANK GOD I found c25k. We started the program last August and the rest is history!!! We finished the program with our first 5k race on October 2, 2008. We both got medals for our age group ( Okay, we were the only ones IN our age group but hey, a medal is a medal!!).

We have kept running and last month signed up for the Chicago Marathon which takes place on October 11, 2009. We have been steadily increasing our weekly mileage but this week is our first OFFICIAL week of training. Since we have been increasing our mileage already I adjusted our training schedule some so we wouldn't be going backwards in our training.

So that is a little history and I want to do this blog to keep us on track and honest about our training. So here we go...

Monday, April, 27th...Our first official training day is uneventful. We ran 4 miles at a 10:14 pace. The weather wasn't bad...upper 60's and raining lightly. All in all a good run.

Tuesday, April, 28th...Off/CT day. Weather today was not great so we went for a walk today to get some work in. Tomorrow is another 4 mile run and we are looking forward to it!!
